Cockfighting and Filipino Culture

The elders are so funny.  This is when we were watching the timer on the camera and not what was happening around us.

We had a delicious Valentine's Day lunch prepared by our beautiful sister missionaries.  The blonde in front is Sister Lundskog from Heber City..who would have guessed!  She lives ten minutes from our house.

We had a special senior couples training and get together event.  President and Sister Mangum took us to Villa Escudero Cultural Center where we had typical Filipino food at the base of a waterfall.  Video

We were transported by Caribou to the different areas of the park.

This is the museum where we saw many Catholic artifacts and natural wonders.

Included with admission was the opportunity to paddle the river on bamboo rafts.

Part of the performance was a dance depicting the cockfight which is an important Filipino cultural event.

Here is the real life line up of trikes and cars in front of the "cockpit" arena.  It is a very popular sport.

We continue to visit our adopted school.  Amy, Brian and family will be here in a few weeks and will do a cultural exchange with the students and assist us with our efforts to provide typhoon kits.

We often see Lolas or Lolos caring for their grandchildren.

Driving back from Baco we saw these beautiful cloud formations.

Our friends at the tailoring shop close to our home.

We arrived back in Calapan just in time to be at a very special baptism.
